What is the biggest scandal in American history that nobody talks about?

The Teapot Dome scandal, though somewhat forgotten in contemporary discussions, remains one of the most egregious instances of government corruption in American history. At its core was the secret leasing of naval oil reserves in Wyoming and California to private companies by the administration of President Warren G. Harding in the 1920s. Albert B. Fall, Harding's Secretary of the Interior, accepted bribes totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for these leases. The scandal was eventually exposed, leading to the indictment and conviction of Fall, making him the first U.S. cabinet member to go to prison for crimes committed while in office. The affair tarnished Harding's legacy and highlighted the need for increased government oversight and transparency, ultimately resulting in reforms to prevent similar abuses of power in the future.
